When young John of Wycliffe arrives at Oxford University, he finds it a fascinating and perilous place. John Wycliff’s translation of the Scriptures from Latin into English so the common man could study the Bible is a fasciting read. The Church`s dislike for Wycliffe and some of the political finaglings that occurred during his professorship at Oxford are more easily understood through this historical fiction than any textbook explanation. The perspective on life in medieval England - including the Black Death, the different orders of the Catholic church, and the conflict between the townspeople and the university members give the reader a sense of the times. Above all, this man’s work is a tremendous reminder of the impact God`s Word alone can have on a person, a nation, a world!
