A number of books are available on the subject which we want to treat in this book. To write another book of this type means that those who have planned this volume have seen a need. Some of the older books which have been written on the subject of sex are so vague that they have little of real value. They hint at many things but say so little that the young man is not able to receive the definite help which he needs nor the answers to his questions. Other books which have been published later and are now available have gone to the other extreme and are so outspoken that they are objectionable. By their suggestiveness they create more problems for the young man than they solve.
You as Christian young men should have a source from which you can secure accurate knowledge on your intimate problems. Every normal young man faces problems of sex. To deny this is to close one's eyes to the facts. God ordained sex, and He created male and female for definite purposes. Many men now living remember in their boyhood days that the subject of sex was considered somewhat vulgar and did not receive respectable attention.
The authors of this book have been asked to write for young men in the teen age. Both of us vividly recall problems of our own youth and know from experience what association with the wrong type of young men can mean. Then also we both benefited by association with teachers and students in a Christian institution. In our medical education and later in practice we have come face to face with many of the problems which young people meet. In this book we are keeping such problems clearly before us, and in a frank, wholesome way we wish to discuss them with the reader. We want this book to be a help to the young man who is seeking advice and who wants to live a life pleasing to God. This book should also prove valuable in hleping parents to formulate methods of instructing their children on matters of sex.
The authors have kept in mind that many young men who read this book will have a high-school education or its equivalent. However, most of the language will be such that those who have less education can read it and profit by the discussions.Homeschoolers' Comments
"Evil forces directed by Satan are busy exploiting young men as they go through the stages of development. Wrong and un-wholesome information or lack of pure information(Titus 1:15) has often caused serious problems for young men in their teen years. Sometimes those problems remain a handicap as they mature into adulthood.
Christian Manhood is reprinted with very little change from its original form as printed in 1948.
We feel this book should not be placed in school or home libraries, nor should it be given to a young man for his personal library. It is rather a book to be kept by the parents to give to their sons to read at an early stage of their development and again in the midteen years. They should not have free access to the book to feed on this type of material.
Due to the influence of a corrupt society, the inclinations of fallen human nature, and the over-promotion of sex education in our time, even a book like this should be used with much discretion..
As a church group we warn our people against the sex exploitation that is so prevalent in the world. We are exposed to its influence through printed material in stores, in public rest rooms, by society's attitude toward morals, and by the public undress.
May God help us to shield our children from these ravages as much as possible. May we continue to promote personal holiness and also give a group testimony against the immoral conduct that is so often taken for granted by professing Christians." Christian Manhood
I asked my twenty-seven year old son to review parts of this book and give me his opinion. He said this would be a very helpful book for young boys because it explains growth and development of men medically in a very easy to understand manner. When young boys begin to experience the changes that result in manhood, they will be prepared to deal with them correctly and they will understand what is happening. Moral issues are addressed well from a thoroghly biblical perspective. He stated that single moms of boys would really benefit from this book as well, in order to help and understand their sons. |
