"I read every available book in the Childhood of Famous Americans Series when I was a young girl. I was so excited when I finished one and went to the library to get another book! This was about 25 years ago and I still remember those wonderful hours spent reading about the lives of our American
heroes! I am so happy that I can now buy the whole series for my own children and plan to incorporate it into our homeschooling year (we may even start it yet this summer!) I highly recommend these books-your child will share the many adventures of our forefathers (and mothers!) and learn without even knowing it!"

"Childhood of Famous Americans series: These books were my favorite biographies as a child. They are very readable and interesting, and allow young readers to enjoy biographies of well-known people when they were children. Although these are not published by Christian publishers, the value of "doing what is right" is stressed throughout the books, with consequences when children do "wrong." Published originally in the pre- and post-World War II years, these books gained much popularity during the 1950's (when I was in elementary school!). When the "new" thinking in education began to take hold in the late 60's-70's (less emphasis on reading, studying, and morals), these books seemed to have been forgotten. They were discovered by homeschoolers (and others). More current men and women including Native Americans, African-Americans and other minorities, have been added to the list of available titles. These are highly recommended for readers from 3rd grade on up (even my older children and teens have enjoyed reading them!). Please contact me if you have questions. vgs@intercomm.com" VS - Nevada

Childhood of Sojourner Truth - Voice of Freedom
What do you do when you don't have a home or a family to call your own anymore? Eleven-year-old Abigail is not entirely sure how she'll find it, but after losing her mother to smallpox and her father to the sea, she knows that it is up to her to build a new life for herself and her little brother, Seth. But carving a future out of the harsh realities of life in Wiscasset, a nineteenth-century Maine seaport, proves difficult, and Abigail fears that there will always be more questions than answers. How long will they be able to stay and work for the young Widow Chase? Will Seth be able to let go of the past?
As the months roll by like waves on the sea, Abigail searches tirelessly for a solution and for an answer to the question she holds most dear: Will they ever find a place to call home again?
