Mr. Henty is considered by many to be the ‘Prince of Storytellers’. His stories revolve around a fictional boy hero during fascinating periods of history. His heroes are diligent, courageous, intelligent and dedicated to their country and cause in the face, at times, of great peril. His histories, particularly battle accounts, have been recognized by historian scholars for their accuracy. Henty’s heroes fight wars, sail the seas, discover land, conquer evil empires and a host of other exciting adventures. They meet famous personages like Josepus, Titus, Hannibal, Robert E. Lee, Cortez, Sir Francis Drake and many more. Understanding the culture of the time period becomes second nature as well as comparing/contrasting the society of various cultures.

Hardcover: Facing Death - A Tale of the Coal Mines
Or, The Hero of the Vaughan Pit. Date: 1800s/Location: Wales/Subject: Life in a Welsh mining village Illustrated by Gordon Browne 8 Illustrations In this rags-to-riches saga set in the 1800s in the coal-mining district of Wales, Mr. Henty has created one of his grandest heroes. Jack Simpson is a fearless, sturdy lad destined to become a miner until a chance encounter irrevocably alters the course of his life. When danger threatens his family, his friends, and on one occasion, the mine itself, he unhesitatingly risks his life to save them. Mr. Henty’s depiction of the realities and the dangers of coal mining form the backdrop of a struggle every bit as exciting and suspenseful as the great battles so many of his heroes witness. Facing Death attests to the power of love, the necessity of sacrifice, and the rewards of magnanimity.
