Homeschoolers' Comments

"As a homeschool Mom, this series has been my favorite. I have investigated other programs, always to return to LLATL. I have used each manual beginning with the Blue Book (approx. 1st grade) through the Tan Book (6th grade). The LLATL series is teacher friendly and simple to implement, just open the manual and begin where you left off the last time. When asked my opinion by other homeschoolers, I like to tell them LLA is "gentle learning." At times the lessons seem so simple and stress free, yet the students are learning! What more could a busy Mom ask for?" Susan Moore "About Learning Language Arts Through Literature Orange Book I'm new to homeschooling, but, after looking around, I ordered this book for my 3rd grader. Actually, she's second-grade age, but reads on a much higher level. The orange book (for 4th grade) is WONDERFUL!!! We are reading books together (her to me or me to her) and then she answers questions and copies passages from the book. There are questions relating to the meaning of passages, grammar, spelling and more. And, she enjoys the work ... she's an avid reader. This is a wonderful Language Arts programs for book lovers!" - GL " I love the curriculum that I have purchased from your company. The Learning Language Arts Through Literature is wonderful! It is easy to use and it is a complete language arts program in one book. Thank you!" - PB

Star Of Light - Patricia St. John Novels
Hamid rubbed the light from his eyes and looked again. He was not dreaming. It was his stepfather! The man watched Kinza as a snake might watch a baby rabbit at play, waiting for the moment to strike. And for one breathless moment Hamid was sure that he would reach out and snatch her away.

Hamid does not want his little blind sister, Kinza, to be sold to a beggar, by their stepfather, so he decides to rescue her. Together they escape from their mountain village to a town where there may be a new home for Kinza. But this is only the start of their adventures. Will Kinza be safe? What will happen to Hamid who dares not go back home?

Learn what can and does happen to children who live in a land where Jesus Christ is unknown - and what can and does happen when missionaries bring the light of Jesus to these people. Set in North Africa, readers will be delighted by yet another of Patricia St. John’s exciting, freshly edited, novels.

Across Five Aprils
Times are uneasy for the Matthew Creighton family as tensions rise between the north and the south as the war between the states approaches. When war breaks out, the Creighton boys head off to fight, expecting a quick and easy victory for the north. But when an older son, Bill, goes off to fight for the south, the Creightons find the war has divided their family and created dangerous strife between neighbors. Nine-year-old Jethro suddenly finds himself the only remaining son in the family, and when his father suffers a heart attack, Jethro becomes the working man of the family. Times are hard, the work endless, but their thoughts are always with their boys in the war. They seem to live from letter to letter and for each newspaper with accounts of the fighting. Young Jethro discovers that a man's good character can be stronger than a gun and last longer than a war.

Eric Liddell
From renowned Scottish athlete to missionary in China. One of the greatest heroes of the Cross in this century Eric Liddell, hero of the film Chariots of Fire, risked becoming a national disgrace at the 1924 Paris Olympics when he refused to run on a Sunday. Disqualifying himself from the finals, Britain's hope of a medal was sacrificed as well. But the thinly veiled criticism in the press turned to sensational acclaim when Eric entered - and won - a race for which he was completely untrained, finishing a full five meters ahead of the favorite. He was a celebrity, but the faith which had inspired his courageous stand stirred in him again, and at the height of his fame he announced that he was leaving athletics to return as a missionary to the land of his birth, China. This story of "God's Athlete" makes for exciting reading.

The Red Badge of Courage
Henry Fleming joins the Union army dreaming of glory and heroic acts on the battlefield. But the harsh reality of the Civil War leaves him struggling against fear and self-doubt to find courage in the midst of chaos.

Small masterpiece set the pattern for the treatment of war in modern fiction. Amid the nightmarish chaos of a Civil War battle, a young soldier discovers courage, humility and, perhaps, wisdom. Widely praised for uncanny recreation of the sights, sounds and sense of actual combat. Today, the book ranks as an enduring landmark of American fiction.

A Tale of Two Cities
Against the backdrop of the French Revolution, Dickens unfolds a masterpiece of drama, adventure and courage featuring Charles Darnay, a man falsely accused of treason. He bears an uncanny resemblance to the dissolute, yet noble Sydney Carton- a coincidence that saves Darnay from certain doom more than once.
