My name is Michele Bergmann. In 1981 I began to teach my two sons at home.
At that time, in Orange County, California, there was only a handful of
homeschoolers and there were not many curriculum choices available. The
following year I began to share my limited experience with new home schoolers
- giving them long lists of publishers and recommended books. I began to see
the need for a curriculum store in the area and I wrote and went to many
Christian bookstores asking them if they would start a homeschooling section
in their store. Almost all of them believed that homeschooling was a fad and
they were not interested. I then began to carry a few of the most commom and
useful titles by opening a small bookstore in my home - in an 11 foot by 11 foot extra bedroom - and I published a catalog which was designed to give
parents who live out of our area helpful information for choosing the books
best suited for their children. I typed the first catalog day and night over
a two week period on an old typewriter - using White-Out! Since that time, the
business has grown far and above what I could ever imagine and I am in awe of
what the Lord has done! He has provided bountifully and enabled me to put my
sons through college (see our Meet the Staff section for details of my
personal home schooling experience). A side benefit of having this business
is that I am able to meet and deal with customers who are such a blessing to
me! I so appreciate the comments, suggestions and encouragement I receive
from so many of you. My desire is to see children grow up, reaching their
full God-given potential, and serving and loving Him with their whole hearts.

P.S. Many have asked what 'Shekinah' means. It is a Hebrew word that means
"God's presence with his people". In high school I attended a small
fellowship in Long Beach, California known as Shekinah Fellowship. I always
liked that name and what it stood for so I named the store after my high school
fellowship.
